A cabin crew member for 26 years, most of them flying long haul, Óscar shares some tips for discovering Doha, one of Iberia’s newest destinations and a gateway to Asia that mixes tradition and modernity.
THE BEST VIEWS
Travel on a dhow, a traditional Arabic boat, to admire the Doha skyline and enjoy all the futuristic buildings that have been built in recent years.
A STROLL
Walking along the city’s Corniche is a must. This 7km stretch is perfect for recreation, and it’s where large celebrations such as Qatar National Day, on 18 December, take place.
A CULTURAL STOP
The National Museum of Qatar, designed by Jean Nouvel, is inspired by the desert rose. It’s where to learn more about the history and customs of the country. Part of the complex, the original palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, can also be visited.
SHOPPING
Visit Souq Waqif, Doha’s most traditional souk, to buy souvenirs, fabrics, footwear, local crafts and traditional foods such as dates. Inside are many restaurants where you can enjoy local food and even visit a falcon hospital.
AS A FAMILY
Enjoy the Inland Sea or Khor Al Adaid, the desert of Qatar, crossing its dunes in a 4×4. You can also practise sandboarding and witness a fantastic sunset here.
