Pintxos Route: Discover the Gastronomy of San Sebastián

24/10/2025

San Sebastián, known as Donostia in Basque, dazzles not only with its beaches and architecture but also with its unparalleled gastronomy. The city is famous for its pintxos—small culinary works of art that combine tradition, creativity, and surprising flavors. Embarking on a pintxos route is a must for any food lover.

What Are Pintxos?

Pintxos are small portions of food, typically served on a piece of bread and held together with a toothpick. Their name comes from the verb “pinchar” (to skewer), as they were traditionally pierced through the bread. While similar to tapas, pintxos stand out for being more elaborate and artistic, reflecting Basque haute cuisine in miniature.
