At Iberia, we want to make your travel experience as comfortable and safe as possible, especially if you’re traveling with a wheelchair, scooter, or any other mobility device. We understand how important it is to have the right assistance during your flight, which is why we’ve put together a guide with all the information you need to ensure your wheelchair travels without any issues.

Check in Your Wheelchair at No Extra Cost If you need to bring your wheelchair, scooter, or another mobility aid, we need to ensure it can be safely transported in the plane’s hold. Remember, you can check in up to two mobility devices at no additional cost. During the check-in process, we ask that you follow a few simple steps to guarantee a smooth journey.

What to Do When Checking in Your Wheelchair When you arrive at the check-in counter, we recommend providing the staff with the details of your wheelchair. For your convenience, you can fill out our wheelchair information form, print it out, and attach it to your chair. If you prefer not to use the form, make sure to provide the following information:
- Type of wheelchair or mobility device
- Dimensions
- Empty weight
- Number of installed batteries
- Type of battery (Make sure to check the rules regarding allowed battery types)
- Specific instructions to prevent the wheelchair from operating unintentionally Also, don’t forget to place a tag with your contact details on your wheelchair. If you prefer that we remove any detachable parts, please indicate that in writing.
- How to Request Assistance at the Airport If you need assistance, we recommend requesting it in advance, at least 48 hours before your flight. You can request assistance in the following ways:
- When purchasing your ticket online: On the website, select the “Passengers with Special Needs” option and choose the assistance you need.
- When managing your booking: After purchasing the ticket, go to the “Manage Your Booking” section on the website and add your special needs.
- At any time: Call our Customer Service Center at 900 111 500 (toll-free) or +34 913 33 67 01 (local number).
-
How You’ll Receive Your Wheelchair Upon Arrival We will deliver your wheelchair to the airplane door, provided operational conditions allow it. If needed, an assistant will accompany you to the baggage claim area.
If you have a connecting flight and need to use your wheelchair at the airport, we can transport it from the hold to the airplane door. -
Do I Need to Travel with a Companion? Generally, you will be able to travel alone if you are a Reduced Mobility Passenger (PRM) and can understand and follow safety instructions without affecting the safety of the flight or the crew’s activities. However, in some cases, you may need a companion or, if you prefer, a healthcare professional who can provide the necessary care.
You must travel with a companion if you need assistance with:
- Reaching an emergency exit
- Communicating with the crew about safety matters
- Putting on or taking off your seatbelt
- Taking care of basic physiological needs
- Accessing and using the life vest or oxygen mask
The person accompanying you must be at least 18 years old and fully independent, except in special cases.
- Aircraft Adaptations for Your Comfort At Iberia, we’ve adapted our fleet to ensure your maximum comfort. All of our aircraft are equipped with:
- Seats with movable armrests in the aisles
- Onboard wheelchairs for flights that allow them
- Accessible restrooms on long-haul flights. If you need assistance locating the accessible restroom, feel free to ask the crew for help. Additionally, our planes are designed for different boarding and disembarking methods, such as remote boarding, jet bridge boarding, via a lift, or ambulance lift.
At Iberia, we are committed to making your trip as comfortable as possible. Traveling with a wheelchair has never been easier!
